What to expect from your sessions

Booking a therapy session can be daunting. Here's what you can expect from me at your sessions.

What to expect from your therapy sessions with me

Therapy is more than a friendly chat: it can take time to get used to the fact that the sessions feel like unusual conversations (we don’t normally spend time just talking about ourselves or going into the detail that therapy can invite). A strong, trusted relationship with the therapist is essential and this will often grow over time.

Sessions might include talking about past and present life events, your feelings, emotions and reactions, your relationships, ways of thinking and patterns of behaviour. The conversations we have, will seek to help you unpick your concerns and identify  your goals for growth and change and the best course of action for you, which might be helping you to resolve your difficulties or to find ways of coping.

 

As a therapist, I will:

·     Seek to build a strong and trusted relationship with you

·     offer a safe and confidential space to help you explore emotional problems

·     try to help you make sense of your world and a develop a better understanding of yourself

·     try to help you achieve the goals we have set together

Your first session (by telephone)

Following your initial enquiry, I will arrange a free telephone conversation (of up to 30 minutes) for a time when you feel able to speak confidentially and comfortably about working with me.

This is an opportunity for us to discuss your need for counselling and hoped for outcomes as well as a chance for me to try to answer any further questions you have about the process of therapy. You can decide whether  you feel comfortable working with me and I will also consider whether I think I can be of assistance to you.In order for therapy to be successful, you have to feel confident about your therapist and also be ready and willing to engage fully in the process.  

If and when we decide to meet in person or virtually, to make a start on our work together, I will give you a counselling agreement which outlines my confidentiality policy and also arrangements for payment, cancellation and ending well.  

Following sessions

If you decide to proceed with more sessions with me you can decide to partake in any of the following sessions:

You can also organise a group of six sessions or book each session individually.
