Counselling and psychotherapy can be confusing words but can generally be understood to cover a range of talking therapies. Counsellors and psychotherapists are trained professionals who will work with you over a period of time, to help you develop a better understanding of yourself and of others. You can check that therapists are registered as professionals by looking at the accreditation they hold. You will see I am registered with the BACP and appear on their register and in their directory of therapists.

Therapy can be helpful if you are experiencing painful emotions or facing difficult decisions, if you want to improve or change your relationships, or if you’d like to develop a better understanding of your self or others.

Perhaps something challenging or troubling has happened in your life, such as a bereavement, redundancy, break-up, divorce or a health scare. There may be something in your past that has not been fully processed or dealt with and is now interfering with your daily life or you may be seeking help to cope with issues such as anxiety, stress or a difficult relationship.

You do not have to be “in crisis” or “breakdown”, before having therapy; you might be feeling dissatisfied with life in general or seeking balance in your life.

Therapy is more than a friendly chat: it can take time to get used to the fact that the sessions feel like unusual conversations (we don’t normally spend time just talking about ourselves or going into the detail that therapy can invite). A strong, trusted relationship with the therapist is essential and this will often grow over time.

Your first phone call consultation will be free and a 50 minute session with me whether a virtual therapy session or a face to face therapy session, the price will be £55.00

You can pay by BACS, cheque or in cash. Weekly payment is required.

Sometimes things happen and you may not be able to make your session. I ask for a 48 hours notice, if you need to cancel an appointment. If this is the case, you will not be charged for the session.  Thank you in advance for respecting this notice period.

There is complete flexibility around the number of sessions offered as this will vary greatly from one person to the next. It is always useful to review after 6 sessions as, by this point, is should be apparent whether the therapy is  beneficial.  

Generally it is helpful to work towards an ending rather than end abruptly and this is best decided together, as it becomes apparent that goals have been reached.

I am trained in Integrative Psychotherapy which involves a variety of different models and theories and allows me to use an approach that meets the specific requirements, circumstances and preferences of my clients.

I incorporate aspects of the following modalities in particular: Person Centred, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Transactional Analysis and Positive Psychology.

As therapists, we are ethically committed to providing a confidential space for you. I take you privacy very seriously. The only exception to this confidentiality is if I have a safeguarding concern, in other words, if I believe you or others to be in significant danger. I will talk more about this in our telephone chat and will always share any intention to involve others, such as your GP, or in the case of young people, your parents.
